Major Tom Effler said deputies were called to Busco Beach ATV Park and Campground on Bryan Boulevard in Goldsboro on Sunday for a report of a sexual assault on a 19-year-old.
After investigating, they charged 40-year-old Anthony Mancenty Pfaff of 1210 Quinn Store Road in Beulaville, NC with second-degree rape.
Effler said before deputies arrived, Pfaff was involved in an altercation with a family member of the alleged victim. He was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment and later released.
A booking photograph showed Pfaff with a Band-Aid covering a wound on his forehead and one eye swollen shut.
Bond was set at $100,000.
