The crash happened around 6:45 p.m. at Buffalo Lake and Pine Wood roads off of Highway 87 between the towns of Spring Lake and Sanford.
Harnett County Sheriff Larry Rollins says a county deputy sheriff attempted to stop a 2004 Jeep Liberty for speeding when the vehicle lost control and wrecked.
The Jeep rolled several times causing the driver and the passenger to be ejected from the vehicle.
The driver, 16-year old Lorenzo FC Knights-McWhite of Cameron, died at the scene. The passenger, also 16-years-old, was taken to Cape Fear Valley Hospital with unknown injuries. Their name has not been released.
The Jeep the teens were riding in was reported stolen on June 20 by Fort Bragg Provost Marshall.
The Harnett County Sheriff's Office has not filed any charges at this time.
