'Purse bandit' strikes twice?

FAYETTEVILLE

Around 9:30 a.m. on June 27, surveillance pictures from the RBC bank on Ramsey Road showed a man wearing what appeared to be a dark colored poncho, a long sleeved white shirt, a black stocking cap, and carrying a shiny gold colored bag described by witnesses as looking like a women's purse.

After demanding money from the clerk, the suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

On Thursday, authorities said they believe the suspect may also be responsible for the Morganton Road Wachovia bank robbery on June 14.

In both robberies, the description of the suspects is similar. The suspect is decribed as an African American man standing between 5' 7" and 5' 10" tall with a medium to heavy build.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department at (910) 433-1586 or CrimeStoppers at (910) 483-TIPS (8477).
