Bank robbery suspect was awaiting murder trial

DURHAM

Investigators say a man entered the SunTrust on Erwin Road around 10 a.m. with what appeared to be a gun and demanded money. He fled in a dark colored car driven by a second man.

Tuesday, Durham Police Department spokesperson Kammie Michael said Ishmael Scarlett, 27, and Isaac Scarlett, 16, both of 2513 Shirley Street, are charged in the robbery.

Ishmael Scarlett was free on bond awaiting trial in the death of an 83-year-old man in 2010. George Junior Pratt was robbed and shot twice in the leg as he sat in his car on Franklin Street. He later died of complications from his injuries.

Ishmael Scarlett now faces additional charges of possession of cocaine with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver, accessory after the fact, felony conspiracy, robbery with a dangerous weapon and aiding and abetting robbery with a dangerous weapon.

He was also out on bond in Wake County on robbery charges.

He's now back in the Durham County Jail under a $1.25 million bond.

Sixteen-year-old Isaac Scarlett is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of stolen goods, second-degree kidnapping and assault by pointing a gun.

His bond was set at $1 million.
