Man sought in drug store robbery

FAYETTEVILLE Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department say an estimated $5,000 worth of Oxycontin and Oxycodone were taken shortly before 2 p.m. on June 25.

A clerk at the drug store on Southern Avenue told police that the suspect handed them a note saying to hand over Oxycontin and Oxycodone and to do it quickly so that no one gets shot.

The clerk then handed over the drugs and the suspect fled the scene. No one was hurt during the robbery.

A warrant for arrest has been issued for George Lee Walton. He is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and trafficking in opium by possession.

Walton is described as an African American man stand 6' 1" tall, weighing between 150 and 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing an orange shirt, shorts, sunglasses and a wide-brim hat.

Authorities say he may be driving a dark blue older model vehicle.

Anyone with information about the location of Walton is asked to call Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department at (910) 433-1856 or CrimeStoppers at (910) 483-TIPS (8477).
