Honey sweet to thieves

RALEIGH

So fresh, in fact that McIntyre keeps beehives on the roof of the restaurant for things like his famous Honey Citrus Vinaigrette.

"Good business investment if you're looking to produce. Honey's expensive right now," he explained. "Good local honey is worth its weight."

But crooks seem to think honey is worth its weight in gold too. Last week, McIntyre says someone tried to steal one of the hives from his roof.

Around closing time, employees noticed a suspicious man near the bees and ran him off. They called police when he returned later that night.

"They were run off and I believe apprehended, so the hives are still there," said McIntyre.

Each hive is worth about $500 and McIntyre says he believes the crook knew their value. He now intends to install a camera to make sure it doesn't happen again.
