A driver told ABC11 Tuesday morning that she hit the gas instead of the brake seconds before her car collided with a pedestrian in the parking lot of the library on Liberty Street in Durham.

The man, who is 46 years old, was rushed to the hospital by paramedics. Police are not releasing his name, and his condition was not immediately known.

The driver, who has not yet been identified by police, said she was backing up into a handicapped spot when she lost control.

"It went flying up that way," she said.

Her car reversed across a sidewalk and grassy area before finally hitting a wall.

Police have not filed charges, but the crash remains under investigation.
