Detectives say a preliminary investigation shows 26-year old William Alan Green of Morreene Road was riding in the area with a friend when they got into an altercation.
Shots were fired and Green the friend drove away. They got help near the campus of North Carolina Central University.
Green was taken to Duke Medical Center where he died the following morning.
