DURHAM

Delia Allen of Lancaster Street in Durham was apparently an innocent bystander when a man who had been ordered from the Guess Road restaurant shortly before 3:25 a.m. Saturday by two off-duty Durham County sheriff's deputies allegedly returned with a gun and started firing.

The 46-year-old was a single mother raising her teenage daughter. Another man in the restaurant was grazed by a bullet, but wasn't seriously hurt.

On Thursday, police announced that investigators arrested 21-year-old Jerry Lee Adams Jr. of Seven Oaks Road in Durham and charged him with murder and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

Adams turned himself in to authorities late Wednesday night. He has been placed in Durham County Jail without bond.

Adams' first court appearance was the same day the victim's family members planned to hold a visitation service in Warrenton.

Funeral services for Allen are set for Friday. Click here for more information at the Triangle Church of Christ web site.

Adams is no stranger to the law, he has faced several misdemeanor charges dating back to 2007. He is scheduled to be in court again on October 17.
