Fifteen-year-old Caitlyn Abercrombie remains in critical condition at the hospital after being shot in the neck with a .22 caliber rifle last month while eating lunch outside a building of her Clinton Road high school in Cumberland County.
The benefit for the Abercrombie family will include shirt sales, a BBQ plate sale with both chicken and pork, raffles and much more. All proceeds will go to the recovering student and her family.
The event will be held at the Wade Community Fire Department on Church Street in Wade starting at 11 a.m. Saturday.
A few weeks ago, the Cumberland County community rallied in support for the injured teen with another BBQ plate fundraiser. Hundreds came out in an effort to raise money for her mounting medical expenses.
According to her family, the 15-year-old is still critical, but her condition has stabilized.
The bullet remains in her neck and she may undergo additional surgeries at some point. Two students have been arrested.
