Vandals destroy tombstones at Wayne Co. cemetery

Law enforcement officials say three juveniles are to blame for dishonoring the dead in Wayne County.

They say the damage totals nearly $100,000 at the Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery in Goldsboro.

Some tombstones were toppled with baseball bats while other parts of the cemetery were also vandalized. Nearly one-third of the headstones of gravestones at the 100-year-old cemetery were destroyed or damaged over Veterans Day weekend.

The sheriff's department says three juveniles are responsible for this. Their ages are 11,13 and 14. They are charged with several serious felonies.

One of the boys has met with the pastor to apologize.
