Man claims phone went missing from checked luggage

RALEIGH

In the summer of 2010, Ron Sanyal says there was no room to take his bag as a carry-on on a flight to India, so he left it with an American Airlines flight attendant to have the bag checked in.

"At the last moment they said sr you cannot take your luggage," he said. "I got my laptop, but in a hurry it dawned on me while they were closing the gate, I forgot my iPhone. As soon as I talked to air hostess this tension is killing me, and she said no we have closed circuit TV, we are watching, I said OK, if you say so."

As soon as Sanyal landed in New Delhi India, he says he checked his bag and his iPhone was gone.

"First thing on the conveyer belt was my hand luggage and guess what, my nightmare came true," he said.

Sanyal says he still has the bag where his iPhone last was.

"What they did, they opened the thing for the i-Phone, which is like 50,000 rupees in India currency - hot selling item - and the charger was there, but in a hurry they did not take the charger," he said.

Ron filed a complaint with American Airlines about his stolen iPhone, shortly after the incident. While he did get a response from the airlines that said they were investigating, he says he never got a follow-up. So after more than a year of waiting, he got in touch with me.

"I studied who will give me the best result, ABC, CBS, NBC, so I chose you," Sanyal said.

I reached out to American Airlines and they said they would look into it.

A short time later, Sanyal learned that the American Airlines would pay him $750 to replace his iPhone.

"After you called them, I immediately got a phone call," he said. "I really, really thank you for looking after little people."
