Accidents involving cattle tie up I-95, twice

JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C.

The initial accident happened around 5 p.m., when a van towing a cattle trailer collided with a SUV near Benson.

Traffic in the southbound lanes near mile marker 84 was backed-up for several miles as authorities worked to clear the area.

At least four cows ran away after the wreck. Most of them were captured, but one remained on the loose.

Hours later around 10 p.m., a tractor trailer hit the roaming animal in the same area and overturned.

The driver of the truck was not injured, but the cow was not as lucky.

The 18-wheeler was hauling cans of soup from Maxton to Pennsylvania. Authorities said the soup was a total loss.

Further details about the accidents have not been released. It is unclear if any charges have been filed.
