Police: No indication gunshot fired at Crabtree Valley Mall last weekend, but can't 'rule out that possibility'
RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Raleigh police said Thursday there is still no indication a gunshot was fired at Crabtree Valley Mall last Saturday, but they also can't definitively rule out that possibility.
Nearly a week after the chaos erupted at Crabtree Mall, police released the 273 911 calls they got to the media. Some calls were calm, others were panicked.
911 caller: Someone was shot, I think. I heard, I heard some gunshots." Dispatcher: "Wait, wait, wait one second. Did someone say that someone was shot?" Caller: "We heard the gunshots. I don't know..." Dispatcher: "Right, right. So you don't, you have no idea." Caller: "Everyone just started running so I'm not sure. Okay (unintelligible) there's a shooter in the mall."

Police reached out to 911 callers who believed they saw someone with a firearm inside the mall. Police also contacted the 911 callers who said they heard a gunshot. The follow-up investigation ruled out the reported sightings as being related to the sound that was heard.

Police said video from the mall has been reviewed, and officers have canvassed all the stores at Crabtree. Their findings were not disclosed.
The ceiling holes in question have also been examined; police said each hole was determined not to be a bullet hole.

No one police detained during the response was found to have played a role in creating the sound.

A recording of the sound heard on Saturday has been submitted to The FBI Laboratory for analysis. Officers told ABC11 that the examination has not been finished, and there is not a timeframe for its completion.
Information about the lab's findings will be released publicly, as long as the results don't interfere with the investigation.

The Raleigh Police Department is continuing its follow-up investigation and continues to ask for any information that might relate to the cause of the sound. Anyone with such information who has not yet spoken to a detective is asked to call the department's tip line at (919) 834-HELP.
