16-year-old charged with DWI in deadly Raleigh crash on Millbrook Road and Atlantic Avenue

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- A 16-year-old has been charged with DWI after police say he caused a deadly crash Wednesday morning.

The crash happened at around 3:30 a.m. at the intersection of Millbrook Road and Atlantic Avenue.

Raleigh Police Department said the teen, whose name has not been released, ran a red light and crashed into John Gottilly, 63. Gottilly was driving a dodge pickup truck.

The force of the teen crashing into Gottilly's vehicle pushed him across the intersection and into an oncoming tractor trailer towing two UPS trailers.

Gottilly was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. He later died.

The teen was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Raleigh Police Department said the teen could face more charges than just the DWI as the investigation uncovers more information.

The intersection was closed for around 12 hours. It reopened to traffic at 3:40 p.m.
