MoneySaver: Pop-up wedding consignment shop planned for October
RALEIGH (WTVD) -- From brides-to-be looking for a deal, to anyone looking to cash in on their wedding dress, a pop-up shop in North Raleigh wants to cater to both.
"This is the first pop-up event," Daphane Birch said.
Birch is planning the pop-up sale as part of her new bridal business, Luxe Bridal Exchange.
"This is the first consignment," she said. "For me it was a personal experience, because I couldn't sell my own wedding gown. We'll have an assortment of gowns at all price points. And, the really good thing about that is, consignment doesn't always mean they're used. A lot of the gowns have never been worn, they're new and they're sample gowns. So, it's just a good opportunity to get them at really discounted rates."
Consignor Joy Leak Gray, the owner of Just Like Me Clothing Boutique, an online clothing company based in Durham, will be selling a few dresses at the event.
"These are actual sample dresses from local bridal salons," Gray said. "They had contacted me to sell their gowns for them, so, I thought this was a great opportunity to help get rid of those gowns. Normally, this dress would run $1,200 on retail. So, this is a gown you could probably get for maybe a fourth of the price, the retail price."
The pop-up shop will be at the Southern Star Ballroom Center off Falls Of Neuse on Oct. 25. Consignors are wanted.
"We are definitely looking for consignors," said Birch. "It's a really good opportunity to make some good extra cash."
If you want to consign, the good thing about it is, its the day of the event. So, you would come between 8:30 a.m. - 10 a.m., drop your gown off with your consignor agreement and tag the gown yourself.
Birch says consignors will get 60-percent of the sale, and boutiques that sell in the pop-up shop will get 80-percent. However, it's the brides who get the most bang for their buck.
"We have all price points in all styles," said Birch.
