Brush fire closes southbound US-1 in Apex

APEX, North Carolina (WTVD) -- A large brush fire threatened homes near US-1 in Apex Monday afternoon and closed the southbound lanes.

Pictures from Chopper 11 showed the highway closed near the Ten Ten Road exit with traffic backed up for miles.

Firefighters quickly put out the flames and were seen mopping up hotspots.
