Driver who killed inmate avoids jail time

RALEIGH

Wednesday in court, Frederick Beaujeu-Dufour pleaded guilty to careless and reckless drivng.

He was sentenced to two years probation.

The victim's family arrived in court wearing shirts with the victim's picture on them. Beaujeu-Dufour lost control of his SUV last July on I-40 near Lake Wheeler Road.

He hit a prison van, two inmates and a corrections officer. One of the imates, 32-year-old Charles Wilson, died.

Beaujeu -Dufour is the son-in-law of former U.S. Senator Lauch Faircloth.
