Teen charged with DWI near high school

RALEIGH The Raleigh Police Department said it has not completed its report detailing the crash, but confirmed a group of teens were in the parking lot of Leesville High School when it happened.

Sources tell Eyewitness News that the students were trying to place a sailboat on campus with a pickup truck as part of the prank.

Police say 18-year-old Alec Esoda of Raleigh made a sharp turn while backing up the truck, causing it to overturn and ejecting passengers from the truck's bed. The truck overturned at the intersection of O'Neal and Leesville roads, which is next to the high school.

Sources say 17-year-old Ian Bunn was hurt. He's in critical condition at Rex Hospital.

Police charged Esoda with reckless driving and cited him with provisional DWI, which is a DWI for a person under the age of 21.

Esoda is scheduled to appear in court July 31.
