Chance of winter weather Friday

RALEIGH

ABC11 News Accuweather Meteorologist Glenn Willey said that Thursday we can expect temperatures ranging from the upper 50s to the low 60s.

But, clouds will begin moving into the area Thursday evening along with a cold front that is forming to the south of the state.

The system is expected to arrive by Friday and remain into Saturday.

"Confidence is increasing that this is going to be a winter storm for much of central NC," Willey said. "A cold front arrives Thursday night bringing in the cold air as moisture heads our way by Friday."

Willey says it's too early to know specifics, "but freezing rain, sleet and accumulating snow are all part of the plan for Friday night into Saturday."

With the threat of winter weather looming, the North Carolina Department of Transportation was taking no chances. Chopper 11 HD spotted brine trucks hard at work putting down a salt solution along Interstate 85 in Durham on Wednesday.

The ABC11 Accuweather team will have more details as the storm approaches. For the most up-to-date forecast, click here for the ABC11 Weather Forecast Blog.
