Jose Canales, 53, faces several charges including second-degree murder, driving while impaired, felony hit and run resulting in serious injury or death, and aggravated felony death by vehicle.
Selma police said Canales ran over Carlos Velasquez as he was walking near his home on Aug. 18.
Police said the victim and suspect lived less than a block away from each other but it's unclear if they knew each other.
