Dewey Watson Jr. , 53, was arrested last week in Jonesboro, La.
Investigators said he moved out of the state in May after the crimes were reported to the Johnston County Department of Social Services, who notified sheriff's detectives.
Watson is accused of sexually assaulting the victim beginning when she was five. The girl is now 12 years old.
He has been formally charged with first-degree rape, first-degree sex offense and other charges.
Watson remains in the Johnston County Jail under a $300,000 bond.
