Police: Brother shoots brother in Cary murder

CARY, N.C.

Authorities say 54-year-old Kevin Leroy Bodden shot his brother, 44-year-old Mark Gregory Bodden, Sunday just before 9 a.m. in the 2000 block of Talking Rock Drive.

Mark Bodden was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds when police arrived at the Bexley at Triangle Park Apartments.

Although he allegedly fled the scene, police located Kevin Bodden at a shopping center in Durham. He has been charged with first-degree murder.

Eyewitnesses told ABC11 minutes before the arrest, Bodden was inside a restaurant drinking, and then all of a sudden he bolted towards the door.

"He was sitting at the bar with a beer and then when he ran out he was tackled," said Lauren Schmidt.

"We saw the manager sitting there watching him at the bar. And the waiters were kind of acting weird but we didn't know what was going on," added Caroline Donnell.

Police taped off the Chrysler 300 Bodden was driving, and a weapon was seen lying on the hood. Police say he used a 9-millimeter handgun to kill his younger brother.

The brothers' mother called in the shooting around 8:45 a.m. She explained there was an argument over money.

The mom also said on the 911 call that Bodden had recently moved into the family's apartment.

This is Cary's first homicide since May 2013.

"You always feel so safe here. I walk my dog at 2:30 in the morning faithfully, every morning, and I don't feel afraid," said neighbor Lory Ford.

Bodden is being held without bond.
