CLAYTON, N.C. (WTVD) -- A 13-year-old boy riding his bicycle was hit by a car in Clayton on Sunday.
Authorities said it happened on Champion Street just before 3 p.m.
Police said the child was traveling south in the northbound lane of Champion Street. The car was traveling north and attempted to swerve around the child, authorities said.
At the same time the car swerved, the child swerved in the same direction, causing the two to collide.
The boy was rushed to WakeMed with head injuries, but was alert and talking when emergency crews arrived. ABC11 was later informed that the boy's injuries appeared to be non-life threatening.
Our crew on the scene said the boy's mother, who is reportedly a paramedic, was caring for the boy while they waited for emergency crews.
Clayton PD said the driver of the car, 21-year-old Marquice Gaines, was charged with driving with a revoked license.
