Former President Bill Clinton visits Shaw University
Former President Bill Clinton visited Shaw University and appeared at some private functions.

Bill Clinton attended fundraising events in Raleigh and Durham on Friday.

His events weren't open to the public, but he did stop to talk and shake hands with students at Shaw University.

The 42th president, both arriving and leaving to a reception line that just kept on growing, took time to greet students, parents and teachers, most of whom were who just in the right place at the right time. With few exceptions, no one knew Clinton would be at Shaw on Friday.

"It was an honor for him to come to a historic black institution like this," said Nfassory Kake, a professor at Shaw. "So it does put us on the map. It was a great honor for him to come out and talk with students and faculty members and all the other people."

Earlier, he was at a private fundraiser in Raleigh, at the home of the local couple featured at the Democratic National Convention.

Friday evening, Clinton attended another private fundraiser, this time in Durham.

Clinton's low-key visit did not escape the notice of Republicans.

"Bill Clinton's fundraising stop comes on the heels of President Obama's attempt to spin his failed campaign against ISIS," said Kara Carter, North Carolina spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee. "Hillary Clinton has long supported President Obama's ineffective approach, even backing his secret $400 million ransom payment to the world's leading state sponsor of terrorism. North Carolina cannot afford four more years of the same weak leadership that has underestimated the threat of radical Islamic terrorism and made our country more vulnerable."
