CaribMask carnival brings fun and energy to downtown Raleigh
Dancers celebrated their Caribbean culture during a parade

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- The CaribMask Caribbean Carnival has been a crowd pleaser for years in Raleigh. On Saturday, folks in downtown got a taste of Caribbean culture as the carnival took over Fayetteville Street.

People told ABC11 they lined up hours in advance for the parade in order to get a good spot.

Some of the dancers in the carnival said they came from miles away and even other states like Virginia to keep the culture alive and show pride in their island.

There was something for everyone interested in the Caribbean (except the beach!).

"It's just a big melting pot of different cultures in here," said organizer Marcia Knight.

Some folks in the crowd caught the spirit and were dancing too.

In addition to dancing, there was plenty of food and vendors selling clothing and other items.
