CARY N.C. (WTVD) -- Police have sent out a warning asking people in west Cary to keep an eye out for any suspicious behavior in their neighborhoods after a series of home invasions in the area.
According to Cary Police, the town averages about 10 break-ins a month, during a period of 5 years, but just a few weeks ago it had 13 break-ins in four days.

It's why police sent out the warning, but there is some good news -- the rate of home invasions has dropped recently, after four people were arrested in Durham last month in connection with a series of break-ins targeting Asian business-owners.

Police said the rate of home invasions has dropped by 58 percent. Randall Rhyne, Captain of the Criminal Investigations team for the Town of Cary Police department said police believe there might be a connection, but they're not 100 percent certain.
"It's something we need to investigate at this time," Rhyne said. "But we have been working with other neighboring agencies who seen an uptick also in these types of crimes and there have been some arrest made in other jurisdictions."
Some in west Cary are using the website/app Nextdoor to keep up with crime and suspicious behavior.
"Our neighbors, when things happen they posted on Nextdoor so you kind of know what's going on," Deon Hinnant said. "I know that in Preston there have been a lot [of break-ins], and our neighborhood not so much."
Terri Stober lives in the Preston development and said their homeowners association just had a meeting to discuss it. She thinks people should be cautious but not alarmed.
"We have not experienced it, Stober said of her own home, "but we had a neighbor that got broken into twice in 15 months. I think everyone is a little bit on higher alert - not nervous, not scared, but just a little more aware."
If you live in Cary and spot anything suspicious, please call the Town of Cary Police Department at (919) 469-4012.
