Raleigh's coat drive in need of more donations

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A community coat drive needs the public's help, and the clock is ticking.
The "Coats Cause We Care" drive will give away hundreds of coats tomorrow for anyone who needs a warm winter coat.

People don't have to sign up in advance, they just come to the Sergeant Courtney T. Johnson city community center on Saturday. As long as they are there in person, they will get a coat. So, if you have three children who need a winter coat, bring all three children with you.
Organizers hoped to collect 500 coats, but they need about 200 more to reach their goal.
The "Coats Cause We Care" drive has given away 2,000 coats over the past years. It started when a Raleigh Parks and Recreation director saw the need in the community.
"I went to work and I saw a bunch of kids standing at the bus stop with no coats on, and it just gave me the drive to start asking people if they had coats that they wanted to give up," said community center director Grady Bussey.
If you have a coat, or can get a coat to donate, organizers are accepting donations all day Friday and Saturday morning until 10 a.m. at the Sgt. Courtney T. Johnson Community Center. That's located on Proctor Street in southeast Raleigh.
The giveaway starts at 11 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m. It is first come, first serve.
