CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WTVD) -- There is controversy growing at UNC-Chapel Hill.
Hundreds of students are calling on the university chancellor to lift the campus ban on Jamie Marsicano.
Marsicano is a graduating law student who was banned from campus last year after she participated in a violent protest.
According to our news-gathering partners with the News and Observer, Marsicano and 22 others were arrested and charged with domestic terrorism in Georgia following a violent protest over a planned police and firefighter training center in March 2023.
That following April, dozens of alumni and students staged a walkout at UNC School of Law over the decision to ban Marsicano. They delivered an in-person letter supporting Marsicano to the chancellor's office.
News and Observer reported when asked about the ban, university spokesperson Chloe McCotter said the school could not comment on the situation because of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
Fast forward to today, students are petitioning for the campus ban to be lifted, so Marsicano can attend this year's graduation.
