Cyclist killed east of Durham

DURHAM (WTVD) -- The North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating an accident involving a cyclist on Highway 98 east of Durham near Kemp Road.

It happened around 11 a.m. Tuesday.

The Highway Patrol says a black pickup truck slammed into the cyclist.

The road was closed was troopers worked to find out what happened. They studied the bike closely and combed through a bag of what looked like the cyclist's belongings.

Neighbors on the road told ABC11 cars speed up and down all the time. They say they sometimes see cyclists but usually they stick to the back roads.

A hearse was seen taking the person's body away.

Troopers have not identified the person.
