RALEIGH, North Carolina (WTVD) -- The Wake County Sheriff's Office confirmed Sunday that a Wake County detention officer who faces charges of selling drugs to inmates has been fired.

Andrew Richard Byrd, 25, of the 100 block of Lemon Drop Circle in Apex, was arrested by the Sheriff's Office.

Byrd was charged July 28 with possession of controlled substance on prison/jail premises, providing drugs to inmates, and conspiracy to sell, deliver Schedule III controlled substances.

Byrd was terminated Saturday and is being held on $500,000 bond. He is scheduled to make a first court appearance Monday.
