DURHAM (WTVD) -- The sixth annual Durham Senior Amateur Golf Tournament starts May 18 at Croasdaile Country Club in Durham.

It's one of the biggest events of its kind in the Southeast, and this year's tournament will have a special purpose.

Tournament founder Dink Andrews is one of Larry Stogner's closest personal friends.

So when Larry got his ALS diagnosis months ago. Andrews set out to do something to help Larry.

The result? This year's Senior AM is a fundraising tournament for ALS research in Larry's honor.

Larry and Dink met at church 12 years ago, and they've been bosom buddies ever since.

In fact, after Larry's wife, Bobbi, Andrews was the first person to learn of Larry's diagnosis.

ABC11's Mark Armstrong has more on both men's recollection of that emotional moment.
