DURHAM (WTVD) -- Durham police said Thursday that the man responsible for the death of a man who once worked as a youth counselor has been arrested.
Police said 31-year-old Daryl Lamar Brooks was driving southbound on Fayetteville Road on March 11 when his vehicle rear-ended a car driven by 53-year-old Kelwin Biggs.
Biggs' vehicle then collided with oncoming traffic. Biggs was pronounced dead at the scene.
Brooks was charged with a DWI the night of the accident and for driving with a revoked license.
On Monday, a grand jury tacked on more charges, including second-degree murder and felony death by vehicle.
Brooks also had other active warrants for his arrest for larceny and assault, in unrelated incidents.
Biggs worked as a youth counselor with troubled teens at the C.A. Dillon Youth Development Center in Butner. He left his job in January, according to a NC Department of Public Safety spokesperson.
The NC Department of Corrections listed Brooks as an absconder after he failed to meet with his probation officer last October.
