2nd person dies in Robeson County fire in 2 days

PEMBROKE, North Carolina (WTVD) -- Robeson County authorities say a second man has died in a house fire in as many days.

Around 5:35 a.m. Wednesday, firefighters were called to the 900 block of Meadow Road near Lumberton for a mobile home fire.

John Smith, 61, was found dead.

Investigators said Smith used space heaters in the home and that may have sparked the blaze.

Tuesday, a former North Carolina Highway Patrol trooper was found dead in his home after a fire.
