Gas leak forces evacuation at Fayetteville theater

FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- A gas leak forced the evacuation Friday night of the Carmike Cinemas at the Westwood Shopping Center.

There was a slight odor of gas inside, and a large part of the shopping center was being checked for gas by HazMat teams.

A gas meter on the side of the theater had a faulty valve, officials said. The building was evacuated while workers fixed the problem.

Moviegoers were able to return to the theater afterward.
