WAKE COUNTY (WTVD) -- Firefighters were called to the Duke Energy's Harris Nuclear Power Plant early Wednesday morning after a fire in a chemical room.

Around 5 a.m., emergency crews arrived at the plant after an employee said an industrial dryer was on fire.

Officials told ABC11 that the machine is in one of their commercial property buildings that is outside of the "power block." However, the dryer was near cleaning supplies and chemicals.

The blaze was quickly extinguished, but to make sure, firefighters had to pull insulation from the machine. Fans were also brought in to ventilate the building.

No one was hurt during the incident, and no evacuations were issued.

The small fire did not have any effect on electricity production at the plant.

It is unclear what caused the dryer to ignite.

The single-unit, 900-megawatt Harris Nuclear Plant is located outside of the Apex and Holly Springs area - about 25 miles southwest of Raleigh.

The plant began commercial operation in 1987, and generates enough electricity to power more than 550,000 homes, according to Duke Energy's website.
