Dump truck causes multi-vehicle crash on I-40 east

WAKE COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- I-40 east in Wake County was closed for nearly two hours Saturday at Lake Wheeler Road due to a crash involving an I-40/440 construction zone dump truck.

Raleigh police said the construction zone dump truck's brakes failed. The truck collided with six other vehicles, police said. The dump truck was in the travel lanes and broke through into the work zone.

All lanes were closed near Exit 297 (Lake Wheeler Road) while crews cleared the scene.

Highway Patrol is inspecting the truck. No one was injured.
