Income gap between women and men remains
RALEIGH (WTVD) -- On International Women's Day a new report shows the income gap between women and men remains.
"The national income disparity between men and women in the workforce is 79 cents to the dollar and in Wake County women make 69 cents to their male counterparts," said Wake County Commissioner Caroline Sullivan.
These findings from the "State of Employment for Women in Wake County Report" show a large disparity between the wages of men and women.

That is why the Wake County Board of Commissioners established a new group to tackle the issue Monday.
Commissioner Caroline Sullivan is chairing the Wake County Task Force on Employment and Wage Issues for Women.
"The goal is to come back with some actionable items that we can move forward with," Sullivan said.
Kim Hunter owns Kim Bap, a Korean-inspired restaurant. As a female business owner, she said she supports the task force.
"Equality for women is just so important to me so I'm really excited to hear about that," Hunter said. "I've always tried personally to do my best and ask for what I deserve so that's what I encourage other women to do and speak up for themselves."
Eighteen community leaders will make up the task force. It will run for 10 months. Members will then deliver a strategic report with suggestions on how to improve this disparity.
