RALEIGH (WTVD) -- The state Supreme Court ruled Friday that Jason Young's case was not harmed when the trial judge allowed evidence about a wrongful death lawsuit and child custody challenge.

Young is serving a life sentence for killing his wife, Michelle. Her bloody body was found in their bedroom with their unharmed 2-year-old in 2006.

The Supreme Court overturned the state Court of Appeals by ruling Young's first-degree murder conviction was not tainted.

The trial judge allowed jurors to hear that another court declared Young responsible for his wife's death after he failed to respond to the separate civil claims, which did not declare his innocence or guilt in the killing.
