UNC takes down national champ LSU 4-3, moves to Super Regionals
After the Tar Heels finally retook their first lead since the first inning, it was the Tigers down to their last three outs in the bottom of the 10th.
Former NC State star Tommy White flied out to start the 10th and then Steven Milam also flied out for the second out.
Jared Jones, who hit the big home run to put LSU up in the third, came to bat as the last gasp for the defending national champions.
Facing UNC pitcher Dalton Pence, Jones battled and drew a walk, giving the Tigers some life.
Josh Pearson at the plate. The left-hander fouled the first pitch off before taking strike 2, leaving the Tigers down to a strike.
The next pitch was down and away, making the count 1-2. A check swing and it's 2-2 with Jones on second base now.
Jones drives up deep to center field but the catch is made just short of the warning track and the Tar Heels hang on to win 4-3 and eliminate the national champions.
UNC joins NC State as the only two teams in the state to advance to the Super Regionals.
