UNC and NC State baseball teams look to win super regionals
North Carolina is hosting a super regional round in Chapel Hill. NC State is traveling to Athens to take on Georgia.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WTVD) -- NC State is hoping to extend its baseball season with a second victory in the Super Regional round of the 2024 NCAA Baseball Championship.

North Carolina took on West Virginia winning 2-1 final. The team is headed to its first College World Series since 2018.

NC State will play in Athens against Georgia in a third-round deciding game on Monday after NC State was defeated in the second round on Sunday.

Makarewicz's 2-run blast gives Wolfpack 8-4 lead over Georgia

NC State gets a massive two-run home run in the top of the eighth by slugger Alec Makarewicz to boost the lead to 8-4 and give the pitching staff a little wiggle room.

The blast scored Garrett Pennington, who doubled to left in the previous at-bat.

Still have a tight game in Athens. Alex Sosa drilled a home run for the Wolfpack in the top of the seventh but Georgia responds with a run in the bottom of the inning and the Wolfpack leads 6-4 going to the eighth inning.

NC State, Georgia both get out of jams in the fifth

After NC State stranded runners on the corners with just one out in the top of the fifth inning, the Wolfpack got out of a major pickle in the bottom of the inning.

Georgia loaded the bases with one out and the crowd roaring.

Jacob Dudan came in to pitch in relief of Logan Whitaker and got a strike out and a grounder to second to get State out of the jam and quiet the crowd.

Still 4-2 Wolfpack.
