RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Memorial Day brings with it many events across the country and North Carolina.
Dozens of people turned out Monday morning at the state capital to pay their respects.
The Marine Corps League based out of Cary hosted Raleigh's 26th annual Memorial Day ceremony. Retired colonel and author Andrew Finlayson was the guest speaker.
Finlayson said he wants all fallen soldiers and their loved ones to be remembered.
"I want you to remember their families. Even though our fallen die and suffer, many of their families suffer for many, many years. We should always remember the families of our fallen," Finlayson said.
In Fayetteville, a special ceremony at Freedom Memorial Park honored those who have paid the supreme sacrifice and the families who lost loved ones.
And in Durham, American Legion Post 7 sponsored an event at Maplewood Cemetery with participation from Riverside High School Jr. ROTC.
