NC NAACP holds Moral Monday vigil in Raleigh
RALEIGH (WTVD) -- In the wake of the June 12 mass shooting in Orlando that left 50 people dead and 53 others wounded, the NC NAACP, the Freedom Center For Social Justice and the Forward Together Moral Movement held a Mass Moral Monday Vigil for Love, Justice, and Equality against Hate and Discrimination Monday at Bicentennial Mall, 16 W. Jones St.
The event began with music at 4:30 p.m. The speaker program began at 5 pm with The Rev. Dr. William Barber. Students, clergy and others also spoke.
"Hate and discrimination will not have the first, the last, or the loudest word," said Barber before a crowd of about 100 people.
Following the spoken remarks, a Memorial Vigil called the names and and honored the memories of the Charleston 9 and the Orlando 49 followed by the releasing of doves.
