RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Two men have been charged with murder in a fatal shooting that happened in a southeast Raleigh neighborhood on July 2.
Ashton Traevon Champion, 21, and Christopher Rodney Jones, 21, were arrested Friday for the murder of James Elvin Alston III.
Alston's mentor, Diane Powell, told ABC11 that Alston had recently got out of jail and was trying to turn his life around.
Alston had a fiancee and three small children. He planned to get married later this year.
Champion was being held at the Wake County Detention Center on an unrelated charge when the warrant was obtained. Jones was taken into custody without incident.
A third suspect was arrested in connection with the Alston's death.
Isaiah Freeman McFarland, 26, was taken into custody Friday evening. He has been charged as an accessory and was taken to the Wake County Detention Center as well.
