CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Lincoln County sheriff's deputies say a Charlotte man who said he was homeless has been charged with passing counterfeit $100 bills.
Capt. Tim Johnson told local media that the bills are the best counterfeit money examples he's seen. Johnson said all the bills had different serial numbers.
Forty-year-old Dannie Ray Pope was arrested and charged with obtaining property by false pretenses, attempting to obtain property by false pretenses and possession of more than five counterfeit bills.
Deputies said a man passed two counterfeit $100 bills at a drug store on Friday. Pope was arrested a short time later at a nearby restaurant and deputies said he had two receipts from the drug store and had 11 fake $100 bills.
It was not clear if Pope has a lawyer.
