WAKE FOREST, N.C. (WTVD) -- Wake Forest police are investigating a case of stolen Christmas gifts that were swiped right off a front porch where they were delivered last week.
The victim alerted others living in the Stonegate community in an email, saying one of their neighbors saw a red, four-door Audi pull up to their house. A man and woman wearing ski masks got out, walked up to the front door and nabbed two packages that had just been delivered by UPS.
The homeowner told neighbors they lost $500-worth of Christmas presents for their children.
Wake Forest police reminded residents Monday in a press release that thieves often follow courier trucks and immediately steal items after they are dropped off. So it's important not to let packages sit around.
While shocked to hear the news, Stonegate residents told ABC11 it made them want to be even more vigilant throughout the Christmas season.
"If you know a box is coming and you have a neighbor who's home, like me, just let us know," said Helen Wilson, a stay-at-home mom. "We'll keep an eye out."
Raleigh police tell ABC11 they've investigated four similar crimes since October. An arrest was made in one of those cases where packages were stolen from front porches.
