Mattress sparks house fire in Durham

DURHAM (WTVD) -- Fire officials blame a mattress for sparking a house fire in Durham.

Firefighters say a mattress behind a house in the 400 block of Lakeland Street caught fire Saturday afternoon.

The flames spread, igniting the siding, before burning up the wall and into the attic.

Fortunately, no one was home at the time and no injuries were reported.

There was heavy smoke damage.

Investigators are working to figure out how the mattress caught fire.
