HIGH POINT, N.C. -- Authorities say they figured out a High Point University student was the man killed when he was struck by a truck on Business 85 not long after he was reported missing.
Troopers told media outlets that officers are investigating what happened to sophomore Mario Mayorga between the time he got into a cab at a Greensboro nightclub Thursday night and was found dead early Friday near the Groometown Road exit.
Investigators were able to identify Mayorga after his family in New York reported him missing Saturday morning.
High Point University held a prayer vigil in Mayorga's honor Saturday night and is providing counselors for any student who needs one.
Authorities say the driver of the truck did not appear to be speeding. The investigation is continuing.
