Wake Forest Police said Bill Womack was reported missing from The Lodge at Wake Forest, an independent senior living facility

WAKE FOREST, NC (WTVD) -- A Silver Alert for a missing Wake County man was cancelled just a few hours after it was issued Wednesday when search and rescue teams found the 77-year-old in a heavily-wooded area next to a creek.

Wake Forest Police said Bill Womack was reported missing from The Lodge at Wake Forest, an independent senior living facility, around 7 a.m. Wednesday, but was last seen around 5:30 p.m. the night before.

Police, the NC Highway Patrol, and Wake County Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit helped locate Womack in the woods off Capital Blvd./US 1 near Star Rd. and Height Ln.

Womack's son Jay told Eyewitness News his father was dehydrated and confused but otherwise OK.

Womack does not have a car so his family believes he walked the two and half miles to where he was found.

"It's kind of nice to know that we live in a community where you don't have to go through this alone," said Jay. "The community support here is just phenomenal."

EMS transported Womack to WakeMed North where he is listed in good condition.
