NC DOT worker dead in accident in Wayne County
State officials confirm a North Carolina Department of Transportation worker was killed in an accident on US Hwy 70 in Wayne County Monday.

GOLDSBORO, N.C. (WTVD) -- State officials said a North Carolina Department of Transportation worker was killed in an accident on U.S. Highway 70 in Wayne County Monday.

It happened just before 11 a.m. at Capps Bridge Road. The area is west of Goldsboro.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol said an initial investigation shows 36-year-old William "Grey" Bailey was working in the median of the highway when a vehicle ran into the median and hit him. Two other members of the work crew avoided being hit.

Tanisha Dukette

Troopers said the driver of the car, 28-year-old Tanisha Dukette, was impaired and she had two children in the car with her. She's been charged with DWI, felony death by vehicle, and child endangerment.

Bailey was an engineering technician who had been with the department since 2010. He is survived by a wife and twin 18-month-old daughters.
